Our story

The environment's friend, by design

Eco-Sathi translates as "the environment's friend" — and that's the whole business plan.

From a Taiwan trip to Nepal's first zero-waste store

In 2018, practising dentist Manu Karki travelled to Taiwan and met friends living entirely zero-waste lives. Inspired, she returned to Kathmandu determined to do the same — and found the products simply didn't exist here.

When her first imported bamboo toothbrush arrived wrapped in plastic bubble wrap, the mission became obvious. On 8 August 2019, Eco Sathi Nepal was registered. Her first investment — Rs. 50,000 for 1,000 bamboo toothbrushes — sold out within two months.

Today we run Nepal's first zero-waste store at Babar Mahal Revisited, a branch in Butwal, and ship to customers as far away as the UK and USA. Alongside imports, we champion products made by Nepali hands: nettle soap, lokta paper pens, jute slippers and chiuri-butter deodorant.
